"What's for Dinner?" "Food. Eat it."

This exchange echoes through my memories of my childhood. I always liked to put a definite name to my meals, and I wanted to know that my mum had consulted a recipe and was following The Rules. If something wasn't instantaneously recognisable I started questioning. It must have been very annoying.

Tonight's dinner, I have to admit, made me ask myself the same question.

It's certainly colourful, whatever it is

I don't have a name for this meal. I don't even have names for two of the component parts. It's just some stuff I had in the fridge, the cupboard and the freezer - disasterous mashed potato (hunger got the better of sense and I didn't boil the potatoes enough) fried in olive oil, burnt lentil thingy, cheapo frozen peas and an egg. I was hungry and I didn't want to cook. My freezer is full to bursting point of food I haven't eaten up. I'm hoping I can get through these last two weeks of term without cooking again, and then hopefully I can empty the freezer a little.

It was filling though, and surprisingly delicious. I think it is reasonably balanced, and it was very simple. I shall call it Scramble - that meal you make when you're scrambling for food.
